An Egret Sits on Tangier

Tangier Island Nature

Tangier Island bills itself as the soft crab capital of the world. Surrounded entirely by the Chesapeake Bay, this little island is also sliced with water trails, which are popular among kayak enthusiasts and nature lovers. Here one can experience the natural, untouched beauty of Tangier's marshes. These watertrails offer an excellent opportunity to see marine birds. The visitors center makes kayaks available for these trips at no charge. There are five trails, a map of which is on the Tangier Water Trails brochure.
